Cuyahoga Valley Photographic Society

Steering Committee Minutes

February 1, 2007

In attendance: Bill Rich, Sylvia Banks, Woody Newport, Jim Roetzel, Jim Schmidt, Ed Toerek, Bruce Winges, and Mike Scocos.

Absent with notice: Darren DeBoo, Diane Young.

  1. Minutes: Minutes of the November 27, 2006 meeting were adopted after the following change (item #2, subsection #2, break into two sentences between “Contest” and “as.”)
  2. President’s Report. Jim Schmidt reported as follows:
    1. The January 18th member show was well attended. Projection of both digital and slide photographs went smoothly with no problems.
    2. Betsy Banks declined the invitation to join the Steering Committee.
    3. Jim Schmidt will contact Joanna Caley of CVNPA to inform her of the committee’s rejection of the M.D. Garage for the photo contest. Alternative site suggestions were:
      1. November at Happy Days
      2. Hale Farm
      3. Web based contest
  3. Workshops: Need to find appropriate motel accommodations for the Spring Tour. Woody will contact members who have already signed up to tell them of the additional $35.00 fee for the prison portion of the tour.
  4. Monthly presentations: If the contest is moved to November, it was suggested that the July meeting could be a panel discussion of some sort or a general membership meeting.
  5. Photo Walks:
    1. We had 30 members attend the January Hale Farm Photo walk.
    2. Ed Toerek will solicit digital images from the photo walks to be used (with permission) during the monthly presentations as a way to promote the Society in general and the walks in particular.
    3. Jim Roetzel requested CVPS letterhead to write a thank you note to the management at Hale Farm. Bruce agreed to provide one to be used for all future correspondence.
  6. Calendar: Bruce will prepare the submission letter and take care of the submission logistics. The submission deadline was set for April 7th.
  7. Web Site: Bill Rich reported that the web site had a security breach in December that he was able to take care of. He also stated that the forums are behind in validating new members due to computer problems with the CVNPA in producing updated member lists; he will work with them on resolving this issue. Bill will also work with Ann Gulbransen, a member, in updating the CVPS web site. Ann has much experience in web site design and has created a prototype site.
