Steering Committee Minutes

April 5, 2007

In attendance: Bill Rich, Jim Roetzel, Jim Schmidt, Ed Toerek, Bruce Winges, Sylvia Banks, and Mike Scocos.

Absent with notice: Darren DeBoo, Diane Young, and Woody Newport.

  1. Minutes: Minutes of the March 1, 2007 meeting were adopted.
  2. President’s Report. Jim Schmidt reported as follows:

We have the OK from CVNPA to spend $1,600 on a digital projector. The projector will be for Photo Society use only. Mike recommends that we also buy spare lamps and a filter. Jim S. will see if we can take advantage of any government discount.

Committee assignments were approved as follows, note that the Marketing, Communication and Membership Committee does not have a chair.

  1. Workshops: There only are eight participants for the spring photo tour. This number is not enough to cover the expenses of $4,200 for the tour. The tour is canceled. The question of what we need to do to make the workshops successful is discussed. Bruce suggests passing out a flyer on the fall workshop at the photo walks and monthly presentations. Bruce agrees to write the flyer.
  2. Photo Contest: Here is the timeline for the contest:

Oct. 20-31: Submission at Happy Days.

Nov. 5: Park sets up screens.

Nov. 7: Hanging.

Nov. 10: Judging (we still hang before we judge).

Nov. 15: Awards.

Nov. 26: Tear down.

  1. Monthly presentations: Sylvia suggests a thread on the forum where the committee can exchange ideas on presenters.

Photo Walks:  Ed has designed a signup sheet so we can better track who is coming to the walks. It also includes waiver language.

  1. Calendar:  Final editing date is being set. It will be April 29.
  2. Web Site Design: A thread has been started.
  3. Recruitment of New Members: It is suggested that a thread be started.
  4. Other Business: The committee thanked the chair for bringing a most delicious and abundant assortment of refreshments. Bruce stated that he had eaten the most, Jim Roetzel objected.
  5. Quote de jour: Jim Roetzel’s quote “A fool’s mouthpiece blows a hollow horn.” Rings clear in the ears of the committee.
  6. Meeting Dates: The next meeting will be held as previously scheduled on Monday May 14th.
