Steering Committee Minutes
October 29, 2007
In attendance: Woody Newport, Bill Rich, Jim Roetzel, Jim
Schmidt, Mike Scocos, Ed Toerek, Bruce Winges, Diane Patrick.
- Agenda: Adopted.
- Minutes: Adopted.
- President’s report: Betsy Banks will join the steering committee.
Jerry Jelinek will join the subcommittee for the photo contest for 2007.
Happy Days will no longer be a Visitors Center starting in January 2008. Happy
Days will be a special events center and will still be available for our
monthly member meetings, but it will no longer be staffed with rangers or
volunteers during the week, so a new photo contest site will be needed.
- Calendar of events: Monthly
presentations are ready, remaining information on workshops/tours, and
photo walks needs to be completed.
- Workshops: Committee approves a spring photo tour of Hocking
Hills to be led by Ian Adams. It will be limited to 15 people. Cost is
$395 for members; $450 for non-members. Dates are April 24-27, 2008. Ian’s
fee is $3,000.00 and includes all expenses. CVPS will need to arrange
& pay for a meeting room at Hocking Hills for classroom sessions and
photo critiques. Committee approves a committee-led road trip to the
Canaan Valley area of West Virginia. Cost is $175 for members; $230 for
non-members. Dates are Oct. 2-5, 2008. Leaders for this road trip will be
Bruce Winges, Ed Toerek, Diane Young, and Sylvia Banks. A stipend for
those who lead the tour is limited to $200.00. On Nov. 14, using the
forum, the committee approves a $50 early bird discount to the first 10
members who register approximately 90 days before each trip.
- CVNP calendar: Nothing to report.
- Photo contest: Jerry Jelinek will help out to learn logistics in
preparation for next year.
- Monthly presentations: Nothing to report.
- Photo walks: Good attendance on the Oct. 20 North Chagrin Reservoir
walk. Next year’s schedule is presented:
Feb. 2: Cleveland Zoo.
April 19: Hinckley or Fowler Woods.
May 31: Ira Road Trailhead.
Aug. 23: Valley Brecksville Prairie.
Oct. 25: South Chagrin.
Dec. 13: Night Photography TBD.

- New business: The question of the 2008 photo
contest site is brought up again.
