Steering Committee Minutes

January 9, 2008

In attendance:  Betsy Banks, Sylvia Banks, Woody Newport, Ed Toerek, Jim Schmidt, Mike Scocos, Bruce Winges, Diane Patrick.

Absent with notice: Bill Rich.

1. Agenda: Adopted.
2. Minutes: Adopted.
3. President’s report: Deferred to agenda.
4. Calendar of events:  Work still is being done. Diane to send to committee ASAP.
5. Web site: One suggestion: Start a thread to ask members what they like about the Photo Society. Harvest the quotes, then display them on the web site. Need to keep the front page fresh. This could be accomplished by:
1. Offering photo tips.
2. Resurrecting the Seasons of the Valley idea.
3. A members’ photo gallery.
4. Documenting what blooms in the Valley during the year.
6. Logo: Graphic designer will put together a couple of proposals. Pay will be credit to the designer.
7. Workshops: A coordinator still is needed. The idea of paying more for the talent is discussed but not resolved. Recommendations for 2009 sought. Proposal to use Canaan Valley State Park Lodge for the West Virginia tour is approved. Jim will explore hotels in the Hocking area.
8. CVNP Calendar: Park willing to move forward with 2009. Bruce will set up logistics.
9. Photo contest: Still needs a home with the closing of Happy Days. Jim will discuss options with Joanna.
10. Monthly presentations: February presentation is set.
11. Tim Thomas prints: Done.
12. Recruitment: Jim welcomes Betsy to the committee.
13. Jim Roetzel resignation: Deferred to the next meeting.
14. New business: None.
