Steering Committee Minutes

 

February 11, 2008

 

In attendance:  Betsy Banks, Woody Newport, Bill Rich, Ed Toerek, Jim Schmidt, Mike Scocos, Bruce Winges, Diane Patrick.

Absent with notice: Sylvia Banks

 

The Hines Hill facility was locked up, so the meeting was moved to the Winking Lizard.

 

  1. Agenda: Adopted.
  2. Minutes: January 9, 2008 minutes adopted.
  3. President’s report: Hale Farm has indicated (via CVNPA) that it may be interested in hosting the photo contest.

Action: Woody and Sylvia will visit representatives of the farm to discuss dates and logistics.

  1. Calendar of events: It is ready to go.

Action: Committee members need to post corrections to the forum, or send Diane editing suggestions.

  1. Photo contest: See president’s report.
  2. Web site: There still is a need for fresh content to keep the site fresh. Committee members should send articles to Betsy or Ed, or post them to the steering committee section of the forums.
  3. Logo: Ed reported that Jeff Bauer of Giraffe Design is working on it.
  4. Workshops: Ten have signed up (all of the early bird discounts spots have been taken) for Hocking Hills, so it is a go. Rooms have been blocked out at the Lancaster Inn.

            Break: Dinner arrived, so we took a break, ate and socialized.

Seven to 10 have signed up for the West Virginia Road Trip. Rooms have been blocked out at the Canaan Valley Resort.

            Action: Shooting schedule is needed for the West Virginia Road Trip.

Ed suggested Las Vegas photographer Peter Lik (originally from Australia) as possible talent for a 2009 workshop.

  1. CVNP Calendar: Bruce suggests same committee works on the calendar as last year: Bruce, Jim Schmidt, Bill Rich, Sylvia Banks, Jim Roetzel, Sue Kirkman. Committee makeup is approved.

Action: Bruce will send out submission letter, contact committee members, collect and catalog images, build the calendar, contact designer, set up editing date, deliver to printer.

  1. Monthly presentations: Next up is the members show. The question of whether critique work has been secured is unanswered. It also is suggested that we confirm presenters by letter and thank them by letter.
  2. Photo walks: Twenty-one people attended the Cleveland Zoo walk Feb. 2. Next walk is April 19, site Fowler Woods.
  3. Roetzel resignation:  Discussion deferred to next meeting.
  4. New business: The possibilities of a juried show or an exhibit of the CVNP calendar images at the Akron-Summit Library are discussed.

            Action: Issue will be discussed internally on the forums.

Betsy Banks suggests posting a draft of the minutes with action items earlier.

            Action: We got a man on it.
