Steering Committee Minutes

March 10, 2008

In attendance:  Betsy Banks, Sylvia Banks, Bill Rich, Jim Schmidt, Ed Toerek, Bruce Winges.

Absent:               Mike Scocos, Diane Patrick, Woody Newport

  1. Agenda: Adopted.
  2. Minutes: Adopted.
  3. President’s report: See photo contest.
  4. Calendar of events: It is being mailed.

Unresolved question: Can the Photo Society be more prominent in the quarterly events guide?

  1. Photo contest: Sylvia and Woody visited Hale Farm. The issues there are: transportation of screens; lobby space is not good; would have to nail into the walls; café would be the alternate space. They also rent space for weddings. The contest would have to be in the summer because they close in the winter. Hale Farm has not gotten back to Joanna Caley. Akron-Summit County Library in downtown Akron is the next site for consideration.

Action: Sylvia will contact the library. Jim will send an e-mail to Joanna regarding talks with the library.

  1. Web site: Sylvia provided a list of flowers to be found in the Valley. The members show gallery is up.

Action: Betsy will write something on good weather web sites. Betsy will research information for the site on birds coming to the Valley this spring.

  1. Logo: Still working on it.
  2. Workshops: Ten have signed up for Hocking Hills. Six or seven have signed up for the West Virginia trip.

Action: Betsy will ask Woody who he has contacted about coming to the Valley for future workshops. Bruce will write up something regarding hotel accommodations for the West Virginia trip.

  1. CVNP Calendar: Sue Kirkman will not be able to edit because she is writing her thesis.

Action: Bruce will set the editing date.

  1. Monthly presentations:  Sylvia will run the Matthew Studebaker presentation.
  2. Photo walks: Next one is April 19 at Fowler Woods.
  3. Roetzel resignation:  The first eight of the 15 items raised were discussed. These items have been addressed or are being addressed.
  4. New business: None.
  5. Good to order.

Meeting time:  1 hour, 50 minutes
